Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the LifeJn 14:1-14

What Jesus said in the beginning of chapter 14, vs. 1-3, is a continuation of Chapter 13. Jesus announced that He was about to be betrayed by one of His own disciples (John 13:21). Furthermore, Jesus has announced that within a very short time He will depart from His disciples. And  “Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going? Jn.13:36.

Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also. 4 You know where I am going, and you know the way.”

5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”

8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that is sufficient for us.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority. But the Father who lives in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me. Or else believe Me on account of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father. 13 I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

After letting them know he was departing Jesus comforted His disciples, they believed in God, now it was necessary also for them to believe in Him, in His sacrifice for us. To be a Christian it’s necessary to have a personal relationship & trust in Christ.

How comforting is to know that Jesus is preparing a place for all of us, believers & followers of Him. That He is coming again to take us to be where He is.

This same Jesus, who was taken up from you to heaven, will come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven. Acts 1:11.

I can imagine the joyful surprised of the disciples when Jesus revealed that He was going to take His people, beginning with them, out of this earth to be with Him for ever, in the place He was preparing in heaven. This was the first time such a revelation took place, but not the last. The apostle Paul spoke of this in 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18.

“For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall be forever with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

He will come to take His own. The dead in Christ will rise first, and then the believers still alive will be caught up to receive the Lord together in the air. And so we will all always be with the Lord in that place that He has prepared for us, so let us comfort one another with this blessed hope. Hallelujah, praise be to our Lord & King!

In verse 6 Jesus clearly says He is the only way to the Father “I’m the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Jesus said, “I am the way.” He is not simply a person who shows the way, but Jesus, personally, is the way. No church, organization or ceremony can lead us to God. Only Jesus Christ can do it. He is the way. Either you trust Him, or you don’t. He also said that He is the truth. He did not simply say that he spoke the truth to us, although he did speak it. He sets the standards of truth, He leads to the knowledge of the truth; And He is the truth, and He is life! He not only declared that he was alive; He is the source, the origin of life; from the lowest vegetative level of life to the highest spiritual level of life.

But most importantly Jesus is the giver of eternal live, no organization or denomination can claim they give us these things because they would be taking the place that only belongs to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The word ‘antichrist’ means someone who is against Christ but also someone who takes the PLACE of Christ.

Many sects claim they have the truth but they don’t have the Jesus of the Bible, nor His teachings, which means they are wrong, & operating in the spirit of antichrist, they don’t have the truth of God but just twisted ideas of men. Other denominations (Catholics, Calvinists, Hebrew Roots, New Apostolic Reformation, etc.) point their teachings as the only ones to give salvation, they are also wrong. Only Jesus, His sacrifice on the cross & believing His words will give you live.

The Promise of the Spirit    – Jn 14:15-18

15 If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, that He may be with you forever: 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you, and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you fatherless. I will come to you.

Not only He promises all who love Him/keep His commandments, that He will be back for us, but also that while He is gone He wont leave us lonely,  but will give us the Holy Spirit the Counselor/Comforter, the Spirit of truth, to help us, teach us & that He will be with us forever.

Thank you Lord, we bless you Jesus, we praise you, you are worthy of all our praise!
