This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series Jesus is God

If Jesus is the Author & Finisher of our faith Heb.12:2 , the Beginning & End, the Alpha & Omega (Rev.1:8), the only way to the Father & heaven (Jn.14:6), then we really need to know who is Jesus if we don’t want to fall into the deception of false religions or cults.

But I fear that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve through his trickery, so your minds might be led astray from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit,. . .2 Cor.11:3-4

Thus says the Lord (YHWH) the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the Lord (YHWH) of Hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; besides Me there is no God. Isaiah 44:6

“Listen to Me, O Jacob, And Israel, My called: I am He, I am the First, I am also the Last. Isaiah 48:12

Jesus said:  “I am the Alpha and the Omega (first & last letters of Greek alphabet) the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Rev.1:8

Note: He who is & was & who is to come, is past, the present & future tenses of verb ‘to be’. He is the I’AM (YHWH)

Jesus possess all of God’s attributes, He is Eternal  Mic 5: 2, Heb. 1:12, (1 Tim.6: 15), (Rev. 17:14). He does not change  Heb.13:8 He is Light John 1 : 7-9; 8:12; 12: 46. He is the Rock  I Peter 2: 6-8, Rom.9: 33, I Cor.3: 11; 10: 4. Lord of Lords  1 Tim.6: 15; Rev.17: 14,19:16Almighty (Who has power or authority over everything) Mat.28: 18, Heb.1: 3; Isaiah 9: 6, All Knowing, etc.

He is not a created being but existed eternally & many passages show that He is the Creator of all things. No creature can create life, only God can.

John 1:3All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.

Colossians 1:16For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they are thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers. All things were created by Him and for Him

Revelation 5:13Then I heard every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that are in them, saying. . .

The Father called His Son ‘God’:, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever” Hebrew 1-9. This is a quotation from Psalm 45:6,7, which is translated exactly the same in book of Hebrews.

Only God deserves to receive worship, to worship any created thing (man, angel, heavenly body, or some other object in nature , etc.) – constitutes idolatry. You shall not have other gods besides me”  and “you shall not bow down before them or worship them” (Ex 20:3 & 5).  Created things should not be worshiped, Romans 1:25

Acts 10:25,26As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up. I myself am a man.” (Cf. Acts 12:20-23; 14:8-18.)

John sought to worship the angel, but the angel forbade it :”I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you not do that. I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Rev. 19:10)

Revelation 22:8-9 I, John, am he who saw and heard these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. But he said to me, “See that you not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!

Romans 1:25 – People who worship and serve created things, rather than the Creator, have left the truth of God.

Our Lord Jesus:

  1.  Received worship,
  2.  Jesus is called on/prayed to,
  3.  Jesus is to be trusted &  honored in the same way we trust & honor the Father.

God’s angels refused worship and the apostles refused worship, but in contrast our Lord Jesus (God in the flesh) received worship from others, including his own disciples & He allowed that:

Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Mat 14:33

And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. . Mat. 28:9

When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Mat 28:17

Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. Luke 24:52

Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. John 9:38

And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Heb 1:6

When Jesus was tented by Satan, He said: “For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ Luke 4:8 But God  commanded all the angels to worship the Lord, suggesting the deity of Christ.

Jesus is God, so we can pray & sing to Jesus:

Jehovah’s Witnesses and other sects, prohibit their followers to worship or to pray to Jesus (because they don’t believe in His Deity). But the early Church prayed to Jesus, as shown in different Scriptures. Praying is just talking or calling on God. Psalm 34:15, Phil 4:6, Psalm 55:16, 1Pet.1:17

If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:14

They stoned Stephen as he was calling on God, praying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” Acts 7:59-60

Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many evil things he has done to Your saints at Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.” Acts 9:13-14

All who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this he who killed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and came here with that intent, to bring them bound to the chief priests?” Acts 9:21

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their Lord and ours: 1 Cor 1:2

If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. Come, O Lord! 1 Cor 16:22

I asked the Lord three times that this thing might depart from me But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me 2 Cor.12:8

“Let everyone who calls on the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Tim.2:19

Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Tim 2:22

Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.  Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. .Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Ephe.5:5-19

I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 Jn.5:13-14

Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Rev.22:20. etc.

The early church recognized the importance of worshipping Jesus through prayer. In fact, when Athanasius made his case against Arianism in the early 300’s, he pointed out that Christians had prayed to Jesus from the beginning. Athanasius argued that if Jesus was not of the same substance as the Father (homoousios) and was instead only a creature, then Christians from the beginning would have been committing idolatry by praying to Jesus. (McGrath, Alister. 1998. Historical Theology: An Introduction to the History of Christian Thought, p. 26. Oxford: Blackwell Publishers.)

Jesus is to be trusted  & honored as we trust & honor the Father.

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. Jn.4:1

that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him” Jn.5:23

All that the Father has is Mine. Therefore I said that He will take what is Mine and will declare it to you. Jn.16:15, also 17: 1-5, 24

Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.  And they sang a new song, saying. . . “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom,And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” . . .Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
Rev.5:8-13

Notice that the same glory and honor belongs to both Father and Son.

For YHWH alone would be His glory:

I am YHWH (Jehovah), that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise unto graven images. ” & ” For My own sake, even for My own sake, I will do it;  for how can My name be polluted? And I will not give My glory to another. Isaiah 42: 8;48: 11.    .Rev.5: 12; John 16:15,17:1-5, 24.

Maranatha!! Come Lord Jesus!!
