Hebrew Roots Movement, Pt. 1

This entry is part 1 of 5 in the series Hebrew Roots

This is not a ‘heresy hunting’ blog, everything we post here about other doctrines it’s because has affected us personally (or our love ones), or are answers to questions made by others. 3 brothers & sisters in the Lord in a period of 1 week sent or asked for information regarding this movement.

I just hope and pray this information here may be of help to you. I also want to ask readers for your prayers, for God to help everyone affected by these doctrines of the Hebrew Root Movement (HRM).

Also it is important to clarify that this group HRM differs in doctrine from many Messianic Jews and some of their leaders have shown publicly their concerns about HRM. See ‘One Law Two Sticks

Jewish believer Stephen Katz expresses his concerns when he says, “Much of the Jewish Roots Movement is actually based on later Jewish/rabbinic tradition. More importantly, the question of whether Gentiles need to add Jewish lifestyle and return to Jewish roots was settled by the Jerusalem Council described in Acts 15. The remarkable news of the Gospel is that, in Y’shua, Jews and Gentiles have direct access to God” (“The Jewish Roots Movement: Flowers and Thorns,” March 1, 2001).

Spiritual Covering & Shepherding Movement

This entry is part 3 of 9 in the series Unsound Doctrines

On 1973  a doctrine about the need of ‘Spiritual Covering’ or submitting to a shepherd was promoted by the “Shepherding Movement, this movement affected many church denominations mainly charismatics but also Reformed, not only in America but also around the world.  The teaching of spiritual covering has been blamed for various levels of authoritarian abuse, church splits, families splits, etc. to the point that 2 of its early proponents left the group: Derek Prince, who withdrew in 1983, explained publicly : “we were guilty of the Galatian error:  having begun in the Spirit, we quickly regenerated into the flesh.” & Bob Mumford in 1989 offered a public apology for being involved in it & admitted the movement was a mistake. He  said this resulted in “perverse and unbiblical obedience” to leaders.

The Church – Biblical Leadership

This entry is part 1 of 1 in the series Spritual Authority

After King Solomon’s death Israel was divided into 2 kingdoms: The northern kingdom of Israel & the southern kingdom of Judah. Both of them fall into idolatry (spiritual adultery). About 200 years latter God judged Israel & Syria conquered them. But still the Lord in His mercy was calling them to repentance.

I see the same happening today to the believers or body of Christ, falling into idolatry, following after all kind of men doctrines, in apostasy, falling away from the truth of God as was prophesied in the Scriptures about the latter days.  1 Tim, 4:1-3, 2 Thess. 2:3, etc.

Once Saved, Always Saved?

Some Christians believe that once you are saved you will always remain saved, and that no matter what you do after that, including sinning, your salvation is still secured. Some others will add that if you sin willingly, then it is because you were never saved in the first place; even after 20 or more years of walking faithfully with God, if you fall, it means you were never really saved.

We’ll try to explain our position on this subject. We are not attacking people who believe differently, we are not questioning their salvation or attacking their character. We believe this is a very important doctrine, but we also think it is still not an issue to divide over if the person has the Foundational Doctrines right,  unless ‘Once Saved, Always Saved’ is used as a license to sin.  Sound Doctrine is very important because what we believe is going to affect our actions & way of living.

Does God harden hearts? Pt.1

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Importance of The Heart

God places on us the responsibility to guard our hearts from hardening. Deut. 15:7, Prov.4:23, Prov. 28: 14  We are warned NOT to harden our hearts.

So what about the passages where God hardens peoples hearts? The main confusion people encounter in this regard has to do with Calvinist’s teachings that say passages which speak of God hardening human hearts prove God’s selective election & determinism from the foundation of the world. That God hardens the hearts of people not elected for heaven so they won’t receive salvation.

But God is not saying one thing and doing another. God is Just! Deut. 32:4, Jeremiah 17:10Job 34:12 , etc.

Examining Calvinism, Pt. 3 – Sovereignty & Hyper-Calvinism

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Calvinism

i. Our first parents, being seduced by the subtlety and temptation of Satan, sinned in eating the forbidden fruit. This their sin, God was pleased, according to His wise and holy counsel, to permit, having purposed to order it to His own glory.

II. By this sin they fell from their original righteousness and communion with God, and so became dead in sin, and wholly defiled in all the faculties and parts of soul and body.   – Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter 6 (Calvinist Catechism).

John Calvin regarding the lost : “it was his good pleasure to doom to destruction” (Institutes of the Christian Religion, III:xxi,7.)

But the Word of God says:

“For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.” Eze. 18:32,–  Ezekiel 33:11

Examining Calvinism, Pt. 2 – Election

This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series Calvinism

Romans 9:12-13: “It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Calvinists teach that Romans 9:13 proves ‘election’, that Jacob was predestined by God, to heaven and Esau was predestined by God, to hell even before they were born.  Based on this verse they teach God chose some people for heaven &  some people to go to Hell for no reason at all, nothing to do with sin. But this isn’t true!

This a more complex chapter (needs more biblical historical background for the proper context) & could be a difficult passage for some to understand it well. Unfortunately Calvinists use this chapter 9 to convert people to Calvinism, to convince them of their view on predetermined election, & even use it on the unsaved people or babes in Christ who still don’t understand Bible doctrine properly, causing confusion to many.

Examining Calvinism in light of Scripture, Pt. 1

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Calvinism

We understand talking about Calvinism is a divisive and controversial issue, but we believe it must be faced because it is growing, and affects the Gospel of Salvation and the very Person of God. Brushing it under the carpet has made the problem worst with time. And as some Reformed have recognized ‘What could be more relevant to the Gospel than how sinners are saved?

What makes things more difficult, is that we know there are many nice, God loving & sincere people involved in this religious system, a lot of them get in it by default, thinking they need to choose between Calvinism or Arminianism. But they don’t have to follow any men’s doctrine, just Jesus Christ & His Word. Many that follow this doctrine don’t even know who was John Calvin, or haven’t read his writings.

Doctrinal errors – Where to Draw the Line.

This entry is part 4 of 4 in the series Importance of Doctrine

The primary requirement of a teacher of the Word, is to be steadfast in the doctrine taught initially by Jesus & the apostles.

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. “,

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrineTitus 2:1
