Recently I saw a picture that was posted in UN Twitter by MexOnu, on Nov.9th (or 9/11) “A guardian for international peace and security sits on the Visitor’s Plaza outside UN Headquarters.” The monument was first displayed at the Rockefeller Plaza with other pieces of Mexican art for the ‘Day of the Death‘ & before removed to put the Christmas tree, then the Mexican UN ambassador J.R De la Fuente asked to be displayed at the UN headquarters as a present for the organization. They say “the guardian is a fusion of jaguar and eagle , donated by the Government of Oaxaca, Mexico @MexOnu. It is created by artists Jacobo and Maria Angeles“. The sculpture was made by Zapotec artisans & the ambassador said that this sculpture, sent by Oaxacan Governor A. Murat, seeks to strengthen the presidency of Mexico in the Security Council of the United Nations, who was at a meeting in the UN at that time.
