{"id":3053,"date":"2016-06-01T23:00:12","date_gmt":"2016-06-02T03:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?p=3053"},"modified":"2023-01-18T08:40:24","modified_gmt":"2023-01-18T13:40:24","slug":"once-saved-always-saved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?p=3053","title":{"rendered":"Once Saved, Always Saved?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some Christians believe that <strong>once you are saved you will always remain saved<\/strong>, and that no matter what you do after that, including sinning, your salvation is still secured. Some others will add that if you sin willingly, then it is because you were never saved in the first place; even after 20 or more years of walking faithfully with God, if you fall, it means you were never really saved.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll try to explain our position on this subject. We are not attacking people who believe differently, we are not questioning their salvation or attacking their character. We believe this is a very important doctrine, but we also think it is still not an issue to divide over if the person has the <a href=\"http:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?m=201603\">Foundational Doctrines <\/a>right,<strong>\u00a0 unless<\/strong> &#8216;Once Saved, Always Saved&#8217; is used as a <strong>license to sin<\/strong>.\u00a0 Sound Doctrine is very important because <strong>what we believe is going to<\/strong> <strong>affect our actions &amp; way of living<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0Nay, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>ye<\/strong> do wrong, and de<strong>fraud<\/strong>, and that your <strong>brethren<\/strong><\/span>. Know ye not that the unrighteous (<a href=\"http:\/\/studybible.info\/strongs\/G94\">G94<\/a> = one who deals <strong>fraud<\/strong>ulently with others, who violates justice, sinful, unjust)<strong> shall not<\/strong> inherit the kingdom of God? <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Be not deceived<\/span>: <strong>neither <\/strong>fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners,shall<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> inherit the kingdom of God.<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/1-Corinthians-6-9_6-10\/\">1 Cor. 6:9-10<\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(The words railing or <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.knowing-jesus.com\/words\/Railings\">revilers<\/a> <\/strong>(G3060) is also translated as<strong> blasphemers<\/strong> or speaking evil, especially against God. It&#8217;s to revile men or blaspheme God.\u00a0 These are people who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Peter%203%3A9&amp;version=AKJV;RVR1960;NKJV;MEV\"><strong>curse<\/strong><\/a> others,<span class=\"st\"> the spreading of malicious lies, <\/span>hateful character assassination. The Greek words (G987, <a href=\"http:\/\/studybible.info\/strongs\/G988\">G988<\/a> &amp; G989) &#8216;<span class=\"transliteration-header\">\u03b2\u03bb\u03b1\u03c3\u03c6\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9\u0301\u03b1 &#8211;<\/span><i>Blasphemia <\/i>is translated most of the time as <strong>railing<\/strong> (e.g. 1 Tim. 6:4, Jude 1:9, Eph.4:31, etc). This isn&#8217;t talking about exposing doctrinal error. Paul &amp; others exposed doctrinal error and named the false teachers. Even Jesus spoke harshly about the pharisees and He wasn&#8217;t reviling them or giving us a bad example. Truth is important but also are the motives when we correct or exhort others.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s common for many Christians who believe in OSAS to interpret the above passage as for outsiders only and to think that carnal Christians no matter if they do those things they are saved, but with all their respect we disagree.\u00a0 The carnal Christian has not <strong>die<\/strong><strong> to self<\/strong> yet, they are not walking in the fullness of Christ or led by the Holy Spirit of God. They just started that process (sanctification) <strong>but need to surrender<\/strong> so God can work in them, &amp; they can grow and be transformed. But if they continue in this path of sin, resisting God, without a genuine repentance, they will lose their salvation.<\/p>\n<p>The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, of wrongdoing. Do we ignore His voice, or instead do we go before the Lord in prayer and ask Him to help us?\u00a0 We should already understand that we<strong> die to ourselves<\/strong> (to our fleshy desires) when we are baptized. &#8220;<em>Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should <span style=\"color: #993300;\">walk in newness of life<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #993300;\">.<\/span>&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Romans-6-3_6-4\/\">Rom. 6:3-4<\/a> . We are not perfect, we can expect some mistakes and God knows that, but we believers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">have now<\/span> the power of the Holy Spirit to help us,\u00a0 <strong>to be able to reject sin<\/strong>, in order to live for Christ, we have no excuse!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But <span style=\"color: #993300;\">if,<\/span> <strong>while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners,<\/strong> [is] therefore <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Christ the minister of sin? God forbid<\/span>.<\/span> For<strong> if I build again the things which I destroyed,<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> I make myself <\/span>a transgressor.<\/strong> For <span style=\"color: #993300;\">I<\/span> through the law<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> am dead<\/span> to the law, <span style=\"color: #993300;\">that<strong> I might live unto God. \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><small> <\/small><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I am crucified<\/span> with Christ<\/strong>: nevertheless<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> I live<\/span>; yet<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> not I<\/span>,<\/strong> <strong>but Christ<\/strong> liveth in me<\/span>: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Galatians-2-17_2-20\/\">Gal. 2: 17-20<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I have met believers who were living in sin, some were living in adultery &amp; were unrepentant about it (even pastors in the news), yet they believed they were going to heaven when they died because at one time in their life they had professed faith in Jesus Christ and were taught in their church that they could never lose their salvation. Sadly, this interpretation gave them a <span style=\"color: #800000;\">false security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Bible teaches that eternal life comes from Jesus Christ, and that we need to stay, abide (remain) <strong>IN<\/strong> Christ while on earth because only<strong> in Him<\/strong> we find &amp; have eternal life (not in us). Remember He is the author &amp; finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), the Alpha &amp; Omega (Rev. 1:8), the beginning and the end (Rev.22:13). <strong>Our faith &amp; salvation starts with Him &amp; ends with Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote title=\"CLICK FOR MORE TRANSLATIONS of Hebrews 10:29- Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?\"><p>When <strong>the righteous<\/strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"> turneth from<\/span> his <strong>righteousness<\/strong>, and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">committeth iniquity<\/span>, he shall even die thereby. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Ezekiel-33-18\/\">Eze.33:18<\/a><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jesus\">Let them be<strong> blotted out <\/strong>(<a href=\"http:\/\/studybible.info\/strongs\/H4229\">H4229<\/a>= Erase, wipe out)<strong> of the book of the living<\/strong>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not be written with the righteous<\/span>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Psalms-69-28\/\">Psalms 69:28<\/a>,<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Exodus-32-33\/\">Ex, 32:33<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Deuteronomy-29-20\/\">Deut. 29:20<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol&#8217;s temple,. . shall the weak<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> brother<\/span> perish<\/strong>, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for whom Christ died<\/span>?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/1-Corinthians-8-11\/\">1 Cor 8:11<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should<strong> be a castaway<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/1-Corinthians-9-27\/\">1 Cor.9:27<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> justified by the law<\/span>; <\/span><\/strong><span class=\"jesus\">so shall ye be my disciples. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/John-Chapter-15\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John 15:1-10<\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is important to understand the word <strong>ABIDE<\/strong> (Strong&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bibletools.org\/index.cfm\/fuseaction\/Lexicon.show\/ID\/G3306\/mimetes.htm\">G3306<\/a>) = <strong>to remain, not to depart, to continue,<\/strong> to endure, to live, to remain as one, <strong>not<\/strong> to become another or different.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eternal Security isn&#8217;t accomplished by works or the self-effort of the person, on the contrary it&#8217;s a continual<strong> dependence on Christ. <\/strong>It&#8217;s a continual surrender of our life to His word because we believe Him\u00a0 and the Holy Spirit helps us to accomplish that (still we can resist him anytime). We believe <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>our eternal security is<span style=\"color: #993300; text-decoration: underline;\"> in<\/span> Christ alone<\/strong><\/span><strong>. It&#8217;s by abiding IN HIM.<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span id=\"en-AKJV-26137\" class=\"text John-3-16\">For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever <strong>believe<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">th<\/span><\/strong> in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.&#8221; John 3:16. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span id=\"en-AKJV-26137\" class=\"text John-3-16\">The word \u2018believeth\u2019 in the Greek is an on-going verb, we are saved by Grace <strong>as long as<\/strong> we keep on believing in Him. If we believe in Him we abide in Him &amp; keep His commandments.<\/span> Jesus used a vine as an example to explain his disciples the relationship between the branches (believers) and Him (The Vine):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"John 15:1-4\" width=\"676\" height=\"507\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iLx9C4b0-RQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There is a vital relationship between the branch and the vine, &amp; it is clear that<strong> the branches have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no life<\/span> &amp; give no fruit <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">on their own<\/span> or separated from the vine<\/strong>. The fruit of the Spirit and any good works should flow from a Christ-centered life, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">good works do not produce a Christ-centered life<\/span> nor help us get closer to God. Many get away from Christ trying to produce fruit on their own. When we abide in Jesus, He empowers us to give much fruit.<\/p>\n<p>Many are troubled by those who claim that, unless a Christian is constantly winning others to Christ, he is a fruitless Christian. But there is nothing in it which suggests that those souls won for Christ are even considered fruit. Although it is good &amp; we all can witness to others (though some are better on this than others), we are one body with different parts and different functions.<\/p>\n<p>Using the basic principle of letting Scripture interpret Scripture, makes it more clear as to what this fruit really is.\u00a0 (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%205%3A6-7&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960\">Isaiah 5:7<\/a><\/strong>) it is evident from this passage of Isaiah, that the fruit which the Lord expects of the vine is<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> moral character<\/span>,<\/strong> or as we have it in the New Testament, the fruit of the Spirit &#8212; <strong>the fruit which the Spirit produces<\/strong> if we<strong> walk after the Spirit<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Galatians-Chapter-5\/\">Galatians\u00a05:22-23<\/a>: <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control<\/span>.<\/strong> The fruit, in other words, is <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Christ-likeness.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Romans-8-29\/\">Rom.8:29<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To be conformed to the image of Christ has nothing to do with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">our<\/span> works nor by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/misguidedshepherds.htm\">spiritual disciplines<\/a> <\/strong>or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/?p=16176\">spiritual exercises<\/a> like some mystics teach. It has to do with the work of the Holy Spirit in us as we surrender to His lead. Remember, if a doctrine or practice is not found in His Word we don&#8217;t need it; let us compare every teaching with the Word of God.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; <i>There is<\/i> therefore now <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no condemnation <strong>to them<\/strong><\/span> which <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are<\/span> <span style=\"color: #993300;\">in<\/span> Christ Jesus<\/strong>, <strong>who walk<\/strong> not after the flesh, but<strong> after the Spirit<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Romans-8-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romans 8:1<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Notice it says &#8216;which ARE<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"> in<\/span><\/strong> Christ&#8217; present tense; it is not the ones that <strong><em>were<\/em> in Christ in the past &amp; are not in Him today<\/strong>. To be<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> in<\/span> Christ, means to be so under His influence, as not to walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit. In other words, it is to receive <strong>constant<\/strong> divine influence from Him, as the branches receive nourishment from the vine every day in order to live &amp; give fruit. As soon as that stops, the branch starts dying, <span class=\"jesus\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\">wither<\/span><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\">ing<\/span>. This close relationship with Christ, and subjection to His guide, are taught throughout the Scriptures. We need to remain in Him, persevere<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> in His words<\/span>, in faith, in this close relationship with Him. If we do that His words will abide in us and fruit will come forth easily.<\/p>\n<p>Some say because we become sons, or are adopted into God\u2019s family, we will never be kicked out; someone who is born again cannot be \u201cunborn\u201d, or that &#8220;once a son, always a son&#8221;.\u00a0 Some even teach that there is nothing we can do &#8211; blasphemy, murder, adultery, lying, etc. &#8211; <strong>that will ever make us lose our son-ship status<\/strong>.\u00a0 But remember <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">we can make choices<\/span>, like the sheep that leaves the shepherd and wanders around and as a consequence <strong>gets lost, <\/strong>also<strong> a son may choose to leave<\/strong> the Father and could get completely separated from Him (spiritually dead):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Luke-15-11_15-32\/\">Luke 15:11-32<\/a> &#8221; And <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the son<\/span> said unto him, Father,<strong> I have sinned<\/strong> against heaven, and in thy sight, and am <strong>no more worthy to be called thy son<\/strong>. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him;.. and let us eat, and be merry: for this <span style=\"color: #993300;\">my son <strong>was dead<\/strong><\/span>, and is alive<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> again<\/strong><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #993300;\">he was lost<\/span>, and is found. And they began to be merry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Romans-11-17_11-24\/\">Romans 11:17-24<\/a> &#8220;And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; <strong>boast not against the branches<\/strong>. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, <strong>The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. Well; <span style=\"color: #993300;\">because of unbelief<\/span> they were broken off,<\/strong> and <strong>thou standest by <span style=\"color: #993300;\">faith<\/span><\/strong>. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Be not highminded, but fear<\/strong>: for if God spared not the natural branches,<strong> take heed lest he also spare<span style=\"color: #993300; text-decoration: underline;\"> not<\/span> thee<\/strong><\/span>. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">if<\/span> <\/strong>thou <strong>continue<\/strong> <strong>in his<\/strong> goodness: <strong>otherwise<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> thou also<\/span> shalt be <span style=\"color: #993300;\">cut off<\/span>.<\/strong> And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief<strong>,<\/strong> shall be graffed in: for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">God is able to graff them in again<\/span>. For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Professor Johan Malan, formerly of the University of the North in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, stated:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It is indeed <strong>eternal salvation<\/strong> imputed to us when we receive Christ, but <strong>we have it only as long as we abide <span style=\"color: #993300;\">in<\/span> Him<\/strong>. <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Eternal life is not vested in us but in Jesus Christ,<\/span> who ever calls His disciples to faithfulness. What happens if we backslide into a life of willful sinning, no longer walking in the light and turning back to a life of unbelief? What about those who \u201chave forsaken the right way and gone astray\u201d (2 Pet. 2:15), having again become entangled in the pollutions of the world after their salvation? (2 Pet. 2:20). What they lose is not temporal but eternal salvation.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The dangers of Eternal Security is that their proponents won&#8217;t believe in <strong>apostasy<\/strong> (falling away from the faith) &amp; because of this they won&#8217;t be cautious, they think they cannot fall away from grace, making them more vulnerable to fall into apostasy, doctrinal errors &amp; other dangers like excusing sin in their lives.
