In this difficult times were our faith is being attacked everywhere, that interfaith is promoted by many leaders, that we are many times pressed to be silent to avoid controversy\u00a0 even in our own congregations, we have a growing tendency to settle for complacency. We stop sharing scripture on social media, we stop talking about biblical subjects or we get weary of correcting unjust words in order to keep the peace.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Spiritual complacency<\/strong><\/span> refers to a state of contempt & self-satisfaction regarding our spiritual life, is unawareness of our deficiencies. This spiritual complacency is often accompanied by a lack of prayer,\u00a0 vigilance, or pursuit of a deeper relationship with God.\u00a0 It’s very dangerous & we all have that tendency. The Bible provides numerous warnings against spiritual complacency<\/span> (Prov.1:32, 19:15, Rev.3:15-16<\/a>, etc) urging us believers to always remain vigilant & to be active in our faith. Our Lord Jesus said:<\/p>\n

” Take heed to yourselves<\/strong>, lest your hearts become burdened by excessiveness and drunkenness and anxieties of life, and that Day comes on you unexpectedly.<\/span> <\/span> 35\u00a0<\/sup>For as a snare it will come on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.<\/span> <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore watch always and pray<\/span> that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen and to stand before the Son of Man.\u201d<\/span><\/span> \u00a0 Luke 21:34-38.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I was praying, asking the Lord what He wanted me to talk about in this blog for this month of February, there are so many things going on right now, but this is the subject & the Scripture He gave me. The Great Day of the Lord is near, Zephaniah 1.<\/a><\/p>\n

Zephaniah is a name of Hebrew origin, \u201czaphan,\u201d meaning \u201cto hide\u201d or \u201cto protect<\/strong>,\u201d and \u201cyah,\u201d referring to God. It means \u201cYahweh hides\/protects\u201d. He was a prophet of royal lineage, descending from the godly King Hezekiah. In this book the prophet Zephaniah is warning God’s people of the impending\u00a0 judgment of the Lord due to idolatry & disobedience. Zephaniah\u2019s call is not just for the wicked; it extends to all of us<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

4 \u201cI will stretch out My hand against Judah, And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
\nI will cut off<\/strong> every trace of Baal from this place<\/span>, The names of the idolatrous\u00a0 priests<\/strong> with the pagan priests\u2014<\/p>\n

5 Those<\/strong> who worship the host of heaven<\/strong> on the housetops; Those who worship and swear oaths by the Lord,
\nBut who also<\/strong> swear by Milcom<\/span>;<\/p>\n

6 Those who have turned back from following the Lord<\/strong>, And have not sought the Lord, nor inquired of Him<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

7 Be silent in the presence of the Lord God; For the day of the Lord is at hand,<\/span><\/strong>
\nFor the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests.<\/p>\n

8 \u201cAnd it shall be, In the day of the Lord\u2019s sacrifice, That I will punish the princes and the king\u2019s children<\/strong>,
\nAnd all such as are clothed with foreign apparel.<\/p>\n

9 In the same day I will punish All those<\/strong> who leap over the threshold,
\nWho fill their masters\u2019 houses with violence and deceit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

10 \u201cAnd there shall be on that day,\u201d says the Lord, \u201cThe sound of a mournful cry from the Fish Gate,
\nA wailing from the Second Quarter, And a loud crashing from the hills.<\/p>\n

11 Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh! For all the merchant people are cut down;
\nAll those who handle money are cut off.<\/p>\n

12 \u201cAnd it shall come to pass at that time That I will search<\/strong> Jerusalem with lamps<\/strong>,
\nAnd punish the men Who are settled in complacency<\/a><\/strong>,<\/span> Who say in their heart, \u2018The Lord will not do good, Nor will He do evil.\u2019<\/p>\n

13 Therefore their goods shall become booty, And their houses<\/strong> a desolation<\/span>;
\nThey shall build houses, but not inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards, but not drink their wine.\u201d<\/p>\n

14 The great day of the Lord is near<\/span><\/strong>; It is near and hastens quickly.
\nThe noise of the day of the Lord is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out.<\/p>\n

15 That day is a day of wrath, A day of trouble and distress,<\/strong>
\nA day of devastation and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess,<\/strong>
\nA day of clouds and thick darkness,<\/strong><\/p>\n

16 A day of trumpet and alarm<\/span> Against the fortified cities And against the high towers.<\/span><\/p>\n

17 \u201cI will bring distress upon men, And they shall walk like blind men,
\nBecause they have sinned against the Lord<\/span><\/span>; Their blood shall be poured out like dust,
\nAnd their flesh like refuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

18 Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them<\/strong>
\nIn the day of the Lord\u2019s wrath<\/strong>; But the whole land shall be devoured
\nBy the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance
\nOf all those who dwell in the land.<\/p>\n

More than ever today we need to listen to the Lord<\/strong>, is time that we silent all other voices and give attention & time to the Lord & His Word<\/span> to do His will<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Lord is going to pass judgment over the idols vs.4 but them that are in any form touching them (idolaters) will also suffer lost. Remember we are now the temple of the living God (See 2 Cor. 6:13-17<\/a>). We are all royal priests this is not just for the leaders “But you<\/strong> are<\/i> a chosen generation, a royal priesthood<\/span>, a holy nation, His own special people, that you<\/span> may proclaim<\/strong> the praises of Him<\/strong> who called you out of darkness into His<\/span> marvelous light<\/span><\/span>” (1 Peter 2:9<\/a>). The Lord will judge the idolatrous priests.<\/p>\n

Those who worship host of heavens or worship angels<\/strong> vs.5 will be cut off, & also those who mix the holy things of God with idols. 2 Kings 23:5.<\/a> \u00a0Milcom<\/a> was an idol of the Ammonites\u00a0(2 Kings 23:13<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lord will also punish those who settle in complacency <\/span><\/strong>(sediment)<\/a>. We need to examine ourselves regularly (2 Cor. 13:5<\/a>) & ask God for help. Are we becoming lukewarm? Are we reading God’s Word regularly? Are we prayerful & watchful? Are we using our talents for the Lord? We are not saved by works (Ephesians 2:8-9<\/a>), but once saved our faith is perfected by works, they go together because faith is active. See James 2<\/a><\/p>\n

Seek the Lord with all your hearts and turn away from anything that hinders your relationship with Him. He loves you so much, He wants you to get close to Him so He can protect you from what is coming.<\/p>\n

Father, help us not to be complacent in our walk with You. Help us to be vigilant & fervent in the Spirit, & not become lukewarm. Deliver Lord all those who are complacent & help them to recover, to go back to their first love with You, in Jesus\u2019 mighty name. Amen<\/p>\n
