1\/ The Healing of a Man Born Blind<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 – Jn 9:1-12<\/a><\/p>\n

In this chapter, Jesus healed a man that was blind from birth. This miracle is recorded in the first 12 verses of this chapter 9. The Lord had say on chap. 8 that He was the Light of the World. He also claimed that He was God (or I’AM) and because of this the Jews wanted to kill Him. Jesus hid as he left the temple, passing in their midst, it was only by a miracle that he was able to escape the angry crowd. His time had not yet come, and therefore they could not catch him. The incident that follows now, is really an extension of the discourse on the Light of the World. The enemies of the Lord Jesus could not see, because they were spiritually blind.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As Jesus passed by,<\/strong> He saw a man blind from birth<\/span>. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>His disciples asked Him, \u201cRabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus answered, \u201cNeither this man nor his parents sinned<\/strong>. But it happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.<\/span> <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>I must do the works of Him who sent Me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work.<\/span> <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>When He had said this, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva. He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>and said to him, \u201cGo, wash in the pool of Siloam\u201d<\/span> (which means \u201cSent\u201d). So he went away and washed, and returned seeing.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

8\u00a0<\/sup>The neighbors and those who had previously seen that he was blind said, \u201cIs this not he who sat and begged<\/strong>?\u201d <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>Some said, \u201cThis is he.\u201d <\/span>Others said, \u201cHe is like him.\u201d <\/span>But he said, \u201cI am he.\u201d <\/span>10\u00a0<\/sup>So they said to him, \u201cHow were your eyes opened?<\/strong>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

11\u00a0<\/sup>He answered, \u201cA Man called Jesus<\/span> made clay, anointed my eyes, and said to me, \u2018Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.\u2019 <\/span>So I went away and washed, and I received my sight.\u201d <\/span>12\u00a0<\/sup>They said to him, \u201cWhere is He?\u201d <\/span>He said, \u201cI do not know.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

2\/ The Pharisees Investigate the Healing<\/span> – Jn 9:13-34<\/a><\/p>\n

13 They brought the man who had been blind to the Pharisees. 14 Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes<\/strong>. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, \u201cHe put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.\u201d<\/p>\n

16 Some of the Pharisees said, \u201cThis Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath day<\/strong>“. Others said, \u201cHow can a man who is a sinner do such signs?\u201d So there was division among them. 17 Then they said to the blind man again, \u201cWhat do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?\u201d He said, \u201cHe is a prophet.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 . . .<\/p>\n

20 His parents answered them, \u201cWe know that this is our son and that he was born blind. 21 But how he now sees, we do not know, or who opened his eyes, we do not know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.\u201d 22 His parents said this, because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed that He was the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. 23 Therefore his parents said, \u201cHe is of age. Ask him.\u201d<\/p>\n

24 So again they called the man who was blind and said to him, \u201cGive glory to God. We know that this Man is a sinner.\u201d 25 He said, \u201cI do not know if He is a sinner. I know one thing: I was blind, but now I see.\u201d 26 Then they said to him again, \u201cWhat did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?\u201d<\/p>\n

27 He answered them, \u201cI told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again?<\/strong> Do you also want to become His disciples?\u201d<\/p>\n

28 Then they insulted him<\/strong> and said, \u201cYou are His disciple, but we are Moses\u2019 disciples<\/strong><\/span>. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses. As for this fellow, we do not know where He is from.\u201d<\/p>\n

30 The man answered, \u201cWell, here is an amazing thing! You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes<\/strong>. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. But if anyone is a worshipper of God and does His will, He hears him.<\/span> 32 Since the world began, it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind. 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.<\/strong>\u201d 34 They answered him, \u201cYou were completely born in sin. Are you teaching us?\u201d And they threw him out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

 <\/p>\n

3\/ Spiritual Blindness,<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0 – Jn 9:35-41<\/a><\/p>\n

35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when He found him, He said, \u201cDo you believe in the Son of God?<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

36 He answered, \u201cWho is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

37 Jesus said to him, \u201cYou have seen<\/strong> Him, and it is He who speaks with you.<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

38 Then he said, \u201cLord, I believe.<\/strong>\u201d And he worshipped Him<\/span>.<\/p>\n

39 Jesus said, \u201cI came into this world for judgment, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

40 Some Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, \u201cAre we also blind?\u201d 41 Jesus said, \u201cIf you were blind, you would have no sin. But now you say, \u2018We see.\u2019<\/strong> Therefore your sin remains<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

 <\/p>\n

The lack of sight didn’t mean the light wasn’t there. Light reveals the true condition. The Light of the World reveals the condition of the soul. The Pharisees had eyes to see, & as religious leaders claimed they could see spiritually but they were spiritually blind.<\/strong> This is what Jesus meant in verse 39 “For judgment I have come into this world; that those who do not see, see, and those who see, may be blinded<\/em>.”<\/p>\n
