The John 17 Movement<\/strong> is one of many ecumenical groups that works to bring ‘unity’<\/strong> between Evangelicals & Catholicism. It was founded in May 2015 by pastor Joe Tosini in Phoenix, AZ.<\/p>\r\n

The slogan of the movement sounds good<\/strong>, & is:<\/p>\r\n

‘‘Father, may we be<\/strong><\/em> one<\/span><\/strong> so that the world may believe<\/span> you sent me.” <\/em><\/p>\r\n

They say inspired in a prayer of Jesus found in John 17:21,22. But we’ll see exactly what Jesus said & prayed for, and how His words had been twisted. Please read the entire John chapter 17<\/a> so you can can read in context<\/a>. And let us highlight some important words:<\/p>\r\n

“I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of<\/strong> <\/span>the<\/span> world.<\/span><\/span> They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they<\/span> have kept<\/span> Your word<\/span><\/strong><\/span>. . . 8 For I have given to them the words<\/strong><\/span> which You have given Me; and they have received them<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed<\/strong><\/span> that You sent Me. . .<\/p>\r\n

13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, . . 14 I have given them Your word<\/span><\/strong><\/span>; and the world<\/strong><\/span> has hated<\/strong> them<\/span> because they are not<\/strong> of the world<\/span><\/span>, just as I am not<\/span> of the world<\/strong>.<\/span> 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not<\/span> of the world, just as I am not of the world<\/strong><\/span>. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Y<\/span>our word<\/span><\/span> is truth<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 . . .<\/p>\r\n

20 \u201cI do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me<\/span><\/strong> through<\/span> their word<\/strong>; 21 that they all<\/strong> <\/span>may be one<\/span>, <\/strong><\/span>as<\/span> You, Father, are in Me, and I in You<\/span>; that they also may be one in Us<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, that the world may believe that You sent Me<\/strong>. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one<\/span> just as<\/span> We are one<\/strong>: 23 I in them<\/strong><\/span>, and You in Me<\/span>; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me”. John 17<\/a><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

– It is clear that the unity<\/span><\/strong> that Jesus<\/strong> was talking about is not<\/strong> a unity with the world<\/strong> (which is the goal of this group) & that it should be centered in Jesus Christ & His Word<\/span><\/strong>, not our own ideas.<\/strong> The people that believe & keep His Word<\/strong> are the only ones that become ONE in<\/strong> Him! The Unity is of the Spirit of God! <\/span><\/span>(Ephe.4:3) It’s already there, we are instructed to KEEP it. Without the Holy Spirit there is no true unity. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God <\/strong>are sons of God. <\/span><\/em>Rom.8:14<\/a>.
<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“For by <\/strong>one Spirit<\/strong> we are all baptized into one<\/strong> body, whether we are Jews or Gentiles, whether we are slaves or free, and we have all been made to drink of<\/strong> one Spirit<\/span>. ” 1 Cor.12:13<\/a><\/p>\r\n

We can’t have unity<\/strong> at expenses of truth<\/strong>, we should have respect for all humans, yes, but not have ‘spiritual unity’ or be One with them, it would be a fake unity<\/span> anyway. This interfaith unity will take the world under the authority of one religious leader<\/strong> (the false prophet of Rev.13 & 16) who is against God & will be the Antichrist right hand . These ecumenical\/interfaith groups are deceiving the world with false promises of peace.<\/p>\r\n

Pope Francis made a video<\/a> not long ago to call for interfaith unity<\/span><\/strong> & said we ALL are God’s children.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

We are all God’s creation, but the Bible says that only<\/strong> those who receive Him<\/span> (His words<\/strong> included) & believe<\/strong> in Him are the children<\/span> of God:<\/p>\r\n

“Yet to all who received <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span>(G 2983=accept) <\/span>Him<\/strong><\/span>, He gave the power <\/span><\/em>(G1849= right<\/strong>, authority<\/span>) to become sons of God<\/span><\/strong>,<\/span> to those who believed<\/span> in His name <\/span><\/em>” Jn.1:12<\/a><\/p>\r\n

I don’t think their slogan was a coincidence since is also the title for an encyclical<\/a> issued by Pope John Paul II on 25 May 1995, calling for ecumenical<\/strong> commitment.<\/p>\r\n

We agree that prayer meetings & unity among Christians that worship & follow the same God & His Word is good. But not “unity”<\/strong> with the world<\/strong><\/span> or with those who contradict\/reject<\/strong> God’s Word (Please see here<\/a> & here<\/a>), that for many years in the past killed thousands of Christians because didn’t agree with their teachings, & who’s maximum leader says having a direct, personal relationship with Jesus<\/strong> is dangerous & harmful! video<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

The Word of God teach us that we are to hold<\/span><\/strong> to the doctrine of Christ<\/a>. The word doctrine<\/a> means teachings, instructions<\/strong>. For this reason ‘true’ Christians follow the teachings & instructions of Jesus Christ<\/strong>, found in the New Testament.<\/p>\r\n

\u201d Whosoever<\/strong> transgresseth (G3845 = depart<\/strong>, leave), <\/em>and abideth (G3306<\/a> = remain<\/strong>, stay, continue<\/em>) not<\/strong> in the doctrine of Christ<\/strong><\/span>, hath not God<\/strong><\/span>. <\/strong><\/em>He that abideth\u00a0(G3306<\/em><\/a> = remain<\/strong>, stay, continue<\/em>) in the doctrine of Christ<\/strong>, he hath both the Father and the Son. If<\/strong> there come any unto you, and bring not<\/strong> this doctrine<\/span>, receive him<\/strong> not<\/strong><\/span> into your<\/i> house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker<\/strong> of his evil deeds.\u201d\u00a0 2 John 1:9-11 .<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Jesus said: 15\u00a0 If ye<\/strong> love me, keep<\/span> my<\/span> commandments <\/strong>(G1785<\/a>=precepts<\/strong>).\u00a0 -21\u00a0 <\/span>He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them<\/strong>, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. <\/span>22\u00a0<\/sup>Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?\u00a0 23\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words<\/span><\/strong><\/span>: and my Father will love him, <\/strong>and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
