{"id":5398,"date":"2018-06-01T05:00:55","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T09:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?p=5398"},"modified":"2026-01-15T20:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T01:58:11","slug":"john-3-pt-2-snake-on-the-pole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?p=5398","title":{"rendered":"John 3, Pt 2. &#8211; Snake on the Pole"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series <a href=\"http:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?series=born-again\" class=\"series-57\" title=\"Born Again\">Born Again<\/a><\/div><p>God made promises to Abraham (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Gen.12%3A1-3%2C+17%3A7&amp;version=AKJV\">Gen.12:1-3, 17:7<\/a>) &amp; his&#8217; Descendan<strong>t<\/strong>\/The See<strong>d<\/strong>&#8216; (Christ, the Messiah) but the Jews stumbled on this (<span class=\"text Rom-9-33\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%2028%3A16&amp;version=NKJV;AKJV;RVR1960;MEV;OJB\">Isaiah 28:16<\/a><\/span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans%209%3A30-33&amp;version=NKJV;AKJV;RVR1960;MEV\">Rom. 9:33<\/a>), they misinterpreted it &amp; took it as it was just for all Abraham&#8217;s descendants <strong>in the flesh, Israelites<\/strong>. Sadly they still believe that today! Most of them believe in salvation because of their race. But we&#8217;ll talk about this on a next post &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/cristolaverdad.com\/?p=5349\">Who is Abraham&#8217;s Seed<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>All <span id=\":50.co\" class=\"tL8wMe EMoHub\" dir=\"ltr\">through<\/span> out John chapter 3 we notice so many times that salvation if for <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>whosoever<\/strong><\/span> believes in <strong>Jesus Christ<\/strong>. The King James translates the Greek word &#8216;<span class=\"encycheading\">pisteu\u014dn<\/span>&#8216; in &#8216;belive<strong>th<\/strong>&#8216; to indicate the verb is in present progressive <strong>&#8216;believing<\/strong>&#8216;, the action still continues.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span id=\"en-AKJV-26133\" class=\"text John-3-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>If I have told you earthly things, and <strong>ye<\/strong> (You all) <strong>believe not,<\/strong> how shall ye believe, if<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> I tell you of <strong>heavenly<\/strong> things<\/span>? <\/span> <span id=\"en-AKJV-26134\" class=\"text John-3-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13<\/sup><\/span><span id=\"en-AKJV-26134\" class=\"text John-3-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">\u00a0<\/sup>And <strong>no man hath ascended up to heaven<\/strong>, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. <\/span> <span id=\"en-AKJV-26135\" class=\"text John-3-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>And as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Moses<\/span> <strong>lifted up<\/strong> the serpent in the wilderness, even so must <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>the Son of man be lifted up<\/strong>: <\/span><\/span> <span id=\"en-AKJV-26136\" class=\"text John-3-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>that <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #800000;\">whosoever<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> <strong>believeth<\/strong> in<strong> him<\/strong><\/span> should not perish, but <strong>have eternal life<\/strong>.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%203&amp;version=MEV;AKJV;NKJV;YLT\">John 3: 12-15<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Verse 13. -Our Lord most probably spoke to correct a false notion among the Jews [that is still taught today by Talmud (=previous oral law) &amp;\u00a0 Kabbalah], that said Moses had ascended to heaven, in order to get the law, a misinterpretation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deut.+30%3A10-12&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960;YLT\">Deut. 30:12<\/a> &amp;\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ex.24%3A18&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960;YLT\">Ex.24:18<\/a>. (Judaism teaches Moses also ascended after his death, <em>Babylonian Talmud Yoma<\/em> 4a). But the bible says: God buried Moses in an unmarked grave (Deut. 34:6).\u00a0\u00a0 No man went to heaven on their own except God took them (e.g. Enoch &amp; Elijah). Jesus uses this illustration to<span id=\"en-MEV-26613\" class=\"text John-12-32\"><span class=\"woj\"><span id=\"en-MEV-26614\" class=\"text John-12-33\"> signify He would die on a cross for our sins,\u00a0<\/span> <span class=\"text Num-21-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+12%3A27-35&amp;version=KJV;AKJV;MEV;RVA\">John 12:33<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-MEV-26613\" class=\"text John-12-32\"><\/span><span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;5 <span class=\"text Num-21-5\">The people<strong> spoke against God<\/strong> and against Moses, \u201cWhy have you brought us up from Egypt <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">to die in the wilderness<\/span>? For there is <span style=\"color: #993300;\">no bread or water<\/span><strong>,<\/strong> and our soul loathes this <span style=\"color: #993300;\">worthless<\/span><strong> manna.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-MEV-4347\" class=\"text Num-21-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>So the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> <strong>sent poisonous <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/studybible.info\/strongs\/H8314\">H8314<\/a>) <strong>serpents<\/strong> among the people, and they bit the people, <strong>and many children of Israel died. <\/strong><\/span> <span id=\"en-MEV-4348\" class=\"text Num-21-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>So the people came to Moses and said, \u201c<em><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">We have sinned<\/span><\/strong> for we have spoken against the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> and against you. <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Pray to the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>,<\/span> and He will take away the <span style=\"color: #993300;\">serpents<\/span> from us<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d And <strong>Moses prayed for the people<\/strong>. <\/span><span id=\"en-MEV-4349\" class=\"text Num-21-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>The <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> said to Moses, \u201cMake a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">poisonous serpent, <\/span>and put it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">on a pole<\/span> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingjamesbibledictionary.com\/StrongsNo\/h5251\">H5251<\/a>=standard, banner), and it will be, that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, <strong>will live<\/strong>;<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=numbers%2021%3A4-20&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960;YLT\">Numbers 21:4-9<\/a> <\/span><span id=\"en-MEV-26612\" class=\"text John-12-31\"><\/span><span id=\"en-MEV-26613\" class=\"text John-12-32\"> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\">We all know Jesus is the<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> bread<\/span> from heaven, the real manna (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+6%3A22-51&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960;YLT\">John 6:41-51<\/a>) He is the Rock (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Cor.+10%3A1-4%2C+Deut.32%3A4%2C+Isa.+17%3A10%2C+Salm.18%3A31%2C+19%3A14%3B+28%3A1&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV\">1 Cor.4:10<\/a>), source of the<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> water <\/span>which represents the Word of God (Him) &amp; the work of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bible.knowing-jesus.com\/topics\/The-Holy-Spirit-Described-As-Water\">Holy Spirit<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\">The descendants of Esau (Edom) had denied Israel permission to cross their land on their way to Canaan. Then Moses &amp; the Israelites had to make a longer journey surrounding the land of Edom (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=+Numbers+21%3A4&amp;version=AKJV\">Num.21:4<\/a>). The discouraged Israelites started\u00a0 to grumble &amp; complain about <strong>God&#8217;s provision<\/strong>, showing their lack of faith (even after crossing the Red Sea).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\">Because of their sin, just like their <strong>poisonous words,<\/strong> they encountered <strong>poisonous snakes<\/strong>, which<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>represented their<\/strong> <strong>sin &amp;<\/strong> its consequence, <strong>death<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span> &#8216; <strong>the wages of<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> sin is death<\/span>&#8216;<\/strong> (Rom.6:23). People understood, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">repented &amp; confessed<\/span> their sin vs.7.<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Moses <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>interceded<\/strong><\/span><\/span> for them &amp; made a replica of the poisonous snake out of <span style=\"color: #993300;\">bronze<\/span> &amp; put it on a pole. Everyone who was bitten or dying would look at the <span style=\"color: #993300;\">bronze<\/span> serpent &amp; live.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Num-21-5\">In the same way, everyone dying from the consequences <strong>of sin, <\/strong>will <span style=\"color: #993300;\">look in faith<\/span> (John 3:15)<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> at Jesus&#8217; sacrifice on the cross<\/span> (our <strong>mediator &amp; intercessor<\/strong>), and live.\u00a0To be saved one must begin by acknowledging our sin &amp; our need of a Savior.<span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span id=\"en-MEV-26612\" class=\"text John-12-31\"><span class=\"woj\">\u201c. .<span id=\"en-AKJV-26405\" class=\"text John-8-23\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">I am from above<\/span><\/strong>: ye are of this world; <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>I am<\/strong> not of this world<\/span>. <\/span> <span id=\"en-AKJV-26406\" class=\"text John-8-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>I said therefore unto you, that <strong>ye shall die in your sins: for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">if<\/span><\/strong> ye <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>believe not<\/strong> that<strong><span style=\"color: #993300; text-decoration: underline;\"> I am<\/span><\/strong><\/span> [<i>he]<\/i>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ye shall die in your sins<\/span>. . .<\/span>When you <b>lift<\/b> <b>up<\/b> <strong>the Son of Man<\/strong>, then you will know<strong> that <span style=\"color: #800000;\">I am<\/span> <\/strong><em>[<\/em><i>He],<\/i> and <i>that<\/i> I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things&#8221;. . .\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-MEV-26613\" class=\"text John-12-32\"><span class=\"woj\"><span class=\"text Num-21-5\"> &#8220;<span id=\"en-MEV-26440\" class=\"text John-8-58\">Jesus said to them, \u201cTruly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">I AM<\/span><\/strong>.\u201d <\/span> <span id=\"en-MEV-26441\" class=\"text John-8-59\"><sup class=\"versenum\">59\u00a0<\/sup>Then they took up stones to throw at Him&#8221;. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jn.8%3A21-59&amp;version=KJV;AKJV;MEV;RVA\">Jn 8:23-28, 58<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-MEV-26613\" class=\"text John-12-32\"><span class=\"woj\"><span class=\"text Num-21-5\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Note:<\/span> The personal pronoun &#8216;he&#8217; is not in the original Greek text. Jesus is saying <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>I AM!<\/strong><\/span> God&#8217;s name given to Moises <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus%203%3A13-14&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960\">Ex.3:13-14<\/a>!!! They didn&#8217;t grab stones when Jesus called them sons of the devil vs.44 but decided that He was blaspheming when He said<strong> I AM<\/strong> vs. 58) and that He should be stoned (according to their law).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span id=\"en-MEV-26612\" class=\"text John-12-31\"><span class=\"woj\">Now judgment is upon this world. Now<strong> the ruler of this world will be cast out<\/strong>.<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-MEV-26613\" class=\"text John-12-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And <strong>if <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #993300;\">I be lifted up <\/span>from the earth, <strong>I will draw all men to Myself.\u00a0<span id=\"en-MEV-26614\" class=\"text John-12-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup><\/span><\/strong><span id=\"en-MEV-26614\" class=\"text John-12-33\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">He <strong>said this to signify<\/strong><\/span> by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #993300;\">what kind of death<\/span> He would die.<\/span><strong>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<span class=\"text Num-21-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+12%3A27-35&amp;version=KJV;AKJV;MEV;RVA\">John 12:31-33<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"text Num-21-5\"><span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\">Jews that had only the Old Testament (like Nicodemus) knew <strong>God judged sin at the <span style=\"color: #993300;\">bronze<\/span> altar<\/strong>. In the outer court of the tabernacle, the altar &amp; all its utensils were made of <span style=\"color: #993300;\">bronze,<\/span> on which ( <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">only <\/span><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Leviticus+11&amp;version=NKJV\"><strong>clean<\/strong><\/a> ) animals were sacrificed to<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> atone for <strong>sin<\/strong><\/span>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus%2027%3A%201-8&amp;version=NKJV\">Ex.27 <\/a>&amp; 38).\u00a0 <\/span>The serpent from Genesis to Revelation, represents Satan &amp; his works,<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> sin<\/strong><\/span>, death, it has never represented our Holy God! The snake was an unclean animal, <strong>never<\/strong> used as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Lv+1%3A4-5%3B+17%3A11&amp;version=NKJV\"><strong>atonement<\/strong><\/a> for sin. <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Jesus is not the snake<\/span> but the <strong>sin offering<\/strong>, the unblemished Lamb of God!\u00a0(Jn 1:29).\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Num-21-5\"><strong>Our sins<\/strong> <strong>&amp; the powers of evil<\/strong> (<strong>the snake<\/strong>) are wiped out &amp;\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">defeated at the cross!!<\/span> (<\/span><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Gen.3%3A15%2C+Col.2%3A14-15%2C+Heb.2%3A14-15&amp;version=NKJV\">Gen.3:15, Col.2:15, Heb.2:14-15<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%2012%3A27-32&amp;version=KJV;AKJV;MEV;RVA\">John 12:<strong>31<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Jn.3%3A8%2C+Jn+14%3A30&amp;version=NKJV\">1 Jn.3:8, Jn 14:30<\/a>, etc.)<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span id=\"en-AKJV-26136\" class=\"text John-3-15\"><strong> &#8220;<\/strong><span id=\"en-NKJV-27016\" class=\"text Acts-3-19\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Repent <\/strong><\/span>therefore and <span style=\"color: #993300;\">be converted<\/span>, that <strong>your sins<\/strong> may be <strong>blotted out<\/strong>, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, <\/span><strong>&#8221; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=acts+3%3A12-19&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960\">Acts 3:19<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>We need to<strong> repent <\/strong>from our sins and<strong> go to God<\/strong>. He sent His son <span id=\"en-AKJV-26136\" class=\"text John-3-15\">that whosoever <strong>believes<\/strong> in<strong> Him<\/strong> should not perish, but <strong>have eternal life.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>We need to know <strong>who is Jesus<\/strong>. He isn&#8217;t just a good teacher or a great man.<strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> He is God! <\/span><\/strong>He is the Messiah, the promised Seed!<\/p>\n<p>You may have heard some people teaching that <strong>Jesus is the snake<\/strong> at the pole<strong>,<\/strong> others say, that He<strong> became a sinner<\/strong> (took on a sin nature) <span style=\"color: #993300;\">at the cross! <\/span>Benny Hinn one proponent of that doctrine, stated: &#8220;<em>Hear this! He who is the nature of God<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <strong>became the nature of Satan<\/strong><\/span> when <span style=\"color: #993300;\">he became sin<\/span>!<\/em>\u201d (Benny Hinn, Trinity Broadcasting Network, December 1, 1990). His friend Kenneth Copeland have same teachings. He said: \u201c<em>The righteousness of God was made to be sin. <\/em><strong><em>He accepted <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the sin nature of Satan<\/span> in His own <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">spirit<\/span><\/em>.&#8221; <\/strong>&amp; then quotes Isaiah 53:10-11.\u00a0 (Kenneth Copeland, \u201c<em>What Happened from the Cross to the Throne<\/em>,\u201d 1990, audiotape #02-0017, side 2) .<\/p>\n<p>But notice the\u00a0 Servant (Jesus) in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53%3A10-11&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;RVR1960;YLT\">Isaiah 53:<strong>11<\/strong><\/a> is called the<strong> \u201cRighteous\u201d <\/strong>even in the context of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">bearing the sin<\/span><\/strong> of others. He bore our sins but sin didn&#8217;t come part of Him. &#8220;<span id=\"en-AKJV-28075\" class=\"text Rom-6-6\"><em>knowing this, that<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> <strong>our old man<\/strong> is crucified<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> with him<\/span><\/span>, that the body of <span style=\"color: #800000;\">sin might be destroyed<\/span>, that henceforth we should not serve sin<\/em>. <\/span>&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans%206%3A%206&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;NKJV;RVA\">Rom.6:6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>-Some may ask then, how can we reconcile this with what it says in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20corinthians%205%3A21&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;OJB\"> 2 Corinthians 5:21<\/a> ?\u00a0 &#8220;<span id=\"en-AKJV-28899\" class=\"text 2Cor-5-21\"><em>For he hath made him <span style=\"color: #993300;\">to be sin <\/span><\/em>(<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221002055749\/https:\/\/studybible.info\/strongs\/G266\">G266\u00a0<\/a><\/span>hamartia)<em><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for us<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, <strong>who knew <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no sin<\/span><\/strong>; that we might be made the<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> righteousness<\/strong><\/span> of God <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">IN<\/span> Him.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our righteousness is <span style=\"color: #800000;\">IN<\/span> HIM, not apart from Him!!<\/strong> Many think they can grab Jesus righteousness &amp; walk <strong>away from Him<\/strong> (&amp; still be saved), but that&#8217;s not possible, Jesus IS our Righteousness, our Salvation, <strong>apart from Him we can do nothing!<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/interlinear\/john\/15-5.htm\">John 15:5<\/a>).\u00a0 <span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A\/<\/strong> First of all<strong>,\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Jesus Christ<\/span> as God is immutable<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+13%3A8%3B+Malachi+3%3A6&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;OJB\">Hebrews 13:8; Malachi 3:6<\/a>), and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>cannot change in His divine nature<\/strong>.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+1%3A12+&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;OJB\">Hebrews 1:12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<span id=\"en-MEV-30091\" class=\"text Heb-7-26\"><em> For such a <strong>High Priest<\/strong> was fitting for us, for He is <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>holy,<\/strong> innocent, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>UNDEFILED<\/strong>,<\/span> <strong>separate<\/strong> <\/span><\/em><strong><em><span style=\"color: #993300;\">from sinners<\/span>, and is higher than the heavens<\/em>.&#8221; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=hebrews%207&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;RVR1960\">Hebrew 7:26<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\">Jesus was <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">without<\/span><\/strong> sin<\/span> <span class=\"text Num-21-5\"> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+John+3%3A5%2C+1+Peter+2%3A22%2C+1+Peter+1%3A18-19&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV\">1 John 3:5, 1 Peter 2:22, 1 Peter 1:18-19, etc.<\/a>).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>B\/<\/strong> Some explain that He <strong>became sin judicially<\/strong>, not in nature. But please, also keep always in mind the Old Testament concept of expiation or <strong>sin offering.<\/strong> From the beginning,<strong> <span class=\"text Num-21-5\"><span id=\"en-MEV-4346\" class=\"text Num-21-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Leviticus+11&amp;version=NKJV\">clean<\/a><\/span><\/span> &amp; innocent<\/strong> blood was necessary to cover sin. &#8220;<em><span id=\"en-MEV-30128\" class=\"text Heb-9-22\">without the shedding of<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> blood<\/span> there is no forgiveness.<\/span><\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209%3A22&amp;version=AKJV;NKJV;MEV;YLT;OJB\">Heb. 9:22<\/a>). When Adam &amp; Eve sinned they tried to cover themselves making aprons with fig leaves (their own works), but God clothed them with the skin of a sacrificed animal (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+3%3A21&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;RVR1960\">Gen.3:21<\/a>). The sacrificial animal <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>always<\/strong> had to be &#8220;without defect&#8221;<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+12%3A5-7&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;RVR1960\">Exodus 12:5-7<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Leviticus+4%3A3%2C+23%2C+32&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;OJB\">Leviticus 4:3, 23, 32<\/a>). The<strong> unblemished<\/strong> animal<strong> did not become of sinful nature or blemished<\/strong>; on the contrary, it&#8217;s<strong> innocent<\/strong> <strong>blood<\/strong> was necessary to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> <strong>cover<\/strong><\/span> the sins of the people.\u00a0 Animal sacrifices could only cover sins, but could not remove them<span class=\"js-canadianPeriod\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+10%3A4&amp;version=AKJV;MEV;YLT;RVR1960\">Hebrews 10:4<\/a>.\u00a0The root of the Hebrew word &#8216;kaphar&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/studybible.info\/strongs\/H3722\">H3722<\/a> translated \u201c<strong>atonement<\/strong>\u201d has the idea of \u201ccovering,\u201d not removal.
