The English Standard Version or ESV has become a very popular bible. It’s being heavily promoted by pastors, organizations, some scholars and bible teachers from different denominations including Catholics<\/a> around the world<\/a>, and Calvinist, but it’s gaining acceptance in other denominations as well. According to Calvinist teacher John MacArthur<\/a> the ESV is the best translation which he compares with the Authorized King James. He now sells ESV study bibles with his signatures & notes. <\/span>But is the ESV a good bible translation? Aren’t all bibles the same? Where the ESV comes from?

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe version [ESV]<\/strong> had its roots in discussions that took place before the May 1997 meeting called by James Dobson at Focus on the Family<\/strong> headquarters to resolve the inclusive NIV issue. . . The group discussed the merits of the Revised Standard Version<\/strong>, first published<\/span> in 1952 by the National Council of Churches<\/strong> and recently replaced by the New Revised Standard Version, a regendered update. Some months later, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School professor Wayne Grudem and Crossway<\/strong> President Lane Dennis entered into negotiations with the National Council of Churches to use the 1971 revision of the Revised Standard Version<\/strong> as the basis for a new translation.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (David Bayly, \u201cDecline of the NIV?\u201d, World Magazine, 5 June 1999)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The ESV<\/strong> is in reality an updated version of the controversial Revised Standard<\/strong> RS (1971 edition) which is copyrighted by an ecumenical & interfaith organization (promoters of one world religion), the National Council of Churches<\/strong><\/a> (1<\/a>), a Socialist<\/a> organization. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. officially sponsored the Revised Standard Version<\/strong> of the Bible. Of the 95 persons who served on this project, 30 have been affiliated with pro-Communist fronts<\/span>, projects, and publications<\/em>.\u201d Air Reserve Center Training Manual, Feb. 1960, pg.3. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This organization began as the Federal Council of Churches in 1908, and then merged with several other ecumenical organizations to become the National Council of Churches in 1950. It advocates interfaith<\/a> relationships and have many interfaith programs with Buddist, Hindus, etc. They are pro gay marriage & clergy. They call the earth sacred and promote the idea that all religions worship the same God.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ESV publishing rights (as well as NIV bible) belongs to giant publishing company HarperCollins a company that belongs to Rupert Murdoch<\/a> (1<\/a>) (Member of Council on Foreign Relations) owner of a multi national media empire that includes 150 news papers: The Sun, The Times, News of The World, The New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, etc. He owns News Corp.,which in 1989, buys Harper & Row and combines it with William Collins to make HarperCollins: HarperCollins<\/a> (owns Avon Books<\/a> – <\/em>which publishes Anton La Vey Satanic Bible & his Satanic Rituals book, Avon Inspire, Ecco, Grafton Books, Harper, HarperOne, –<\/em>publishes many Kabbalah, esoteric & pagan ritual books, William Morrow,<\/em><\/span> Emanate, Elm Hill, Harlequin Enterprises, Bible Gateway <\/span><\/span><\/em>(with on-line bibles), Olive Tree app, Thomas Nelson, Zondervan, WestBow Press,<\/em><\/span><\/span> Church Source<\/span><\/span><\/em>–<\/em>resources for pastor & leaders, etc<\/em>.). <\/span><\/p>\n

Larger Christian publisher Thomas Nelson<\/strong> was acquired in 2011-12<\/a>, which means Murdoch now also have the publishing rights for the New King James version, NASB, RSV, etc & has more than 50% control of the Christian publishing market! Some of his publishing companies Zondervan, Harpen<\/strong> Collins, etc.<\/strong> have been publishing many of the books of Billy Graham, Max Lucado, John MacArthur, Rick Warren (who claims to be Murdoch’s pastor) & many other Christian books. <\/span><\/p>\n

In 2007 Murdoch bought Beliefnet one of the largest (inter) faith networks. He also owns 20th Century Fox, Fox News, pornographic Sky Network (Sky now owns and operates its own pornographic channels), his News Corp<\/strong>. company is a major owner of DirecTV. He is a prominent shareholder in BskyB Which platforms pornography channels such as Playboy, Telx, red hot tv. etc. Murdoch\u2019s media ownership extends to Asia, western Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Because of his faithfulness to the Roman Catholic Church (even he is the biggest producer of worldwide pornography) Murdoch was given papal <\/strong>knighthood<\/a> of the Pontifical Order of St Gregory<\/a> the Great (Order of Malta) in January 1998, which makes him a commander in the order.

The Catholic Church before the Reformation claimed to have exclusive right over<\/strong> the exegesis of the Holy Scriptures<\/strong> no body else could posses, translate or publish the bible. The Vatican on 16th century had an official bible<\/span> on one language, the Latin Vulgate<\/a> canonical version by Jerome (many confuse this with the Old<\/strong> Latin Vulgate, but these are not the same). To keep control they discouraged people from reading the Scriptures on their own. This control intensified<\/a> trough the middle ages, the possession of bibles and the translations into any other languages was hindered by confiscating and burning bibles, but on top of that people were, imprisoned, persecuted & burned at the stake<\/a> on the basis of heresy. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like the Catholic Latin Vulgate, the ESV & the modern bible versions<\/strong> have the same Alexandrian<\/span> manuscripts, and the right to copy & publishing bibles is getting in the hands of a powerful & devout Catholic . . . is history about to be repeated again?
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he RSV, NRSV and now the ESV claim to be in the “Tyndale-King James legacy” but this is only a trick to sell. To clarify, we are not part of the ‘King James only’ movement, but we believe the King James Bible is one of the best translations of the bible in the ‘English’ language, as well as other Bibles translated from the Textus Receptus or Received Text (also known as Majority Text). The arguments should not be about whether the King James is the best bible, but about which text of manuscripts is more reliable<\/strong>. There are only few bibles left today in every language that still uses the Textus Receptus<\/strong>, examples in the English language: Authorized King James<\/em>; ‘The Interlinear Bible’ by Jay P. Green Sr.; George Ricker Berry, Interlinear Greek-English New Testament, World Publishing, 1997, 1999; New King James <\/em>(which unfortunately had some changes and words removed & also had a triquetra<\/span><\/a> occult symbol on cover, which after many complaints was removed from later editions) & the Modern English Version, MEV<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sound doctrine is very important<\/strong> because what we believe has an impact on what we do<\/strong>. There is a direct correlation between belief and behavior<\/span>. Sound doctrine leads to life. Jesus warned us to be wise & build our lives on the solid rock of His words<\/strong>\/teachings (doctrine)<\/span>, not doing so will be a foolish thing that will cause us a great fall or ruin (Matthew 7:24-27<\/a>). Unsound doctrine leads to apostasy, to spiritual ruin. <\/span><\/p>\n

Because we consider sound doctrine<\/a> important we prefer a bible version translated from the Received Text<\/span> (Textus Receptus or Majority Text<\/strong>) that doesn’t remove or add important words. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you<\/b>, not sparing the flock.\u00a0<\/span>Also of your own selves shall men<\/strong> arise, speaking<\/strong> perverse (G1294<\/a>= distort, corrupt<\/strong> ) things, to draw away disciples after them.\u00a0<\/b><\/span>Therefore watch<\/b><\/span>, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn<\/b> every one night and day with tears<\/span>\u201d.\u00a0<\/em> Acts 20: 29-31<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

-For the time will come when they will not<\/strong> endure sound doctrine<\/strong>; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away<\/strong> their ears from the truth<\/strong>, and shall be turned unto fables. ( 2 Timothy 4:3-4\u00a0 )<\/span><\/p>\n

“Take heed<\/strong> unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them<\/strong>: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d (1 Timothy 4:16<\/a>).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Most modern translations like New International Version NIV, The Living Bible, New Revised Standard NRS, ESV, etc. weaken core doctrine. I remember having trouble to prove the divinity of Jesus Christ or His death on the cross (not a stake) to a Jehovah’s Witness who knocked on my door, when I used an NIV. One word from God omitted or changed can produce doubt<\/strong> & doubt is contrary to faith <\/strong>(and without faith it is impossible to please God, Heb.11:6). That has been the enemy’s strategy from the very beginning : “And the Lord<\/span> God commanded the man, saying, \u201cOf every<\/strong> tree of the garden you may freely eat,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em>but of the tree<\/span> of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,..<\/em>.\u201d Gen.2:16-17, & we see in Gen.3:1 how the enemy changed God’s words: “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord<\/span> God had made. And he said to the woman, \u201cHas God said, \u2018You shall not eat of any<\/strong> tree of the garden<\/span><\/em>\u2019?<\/span>” After Adan & Eve doubted God<\/strong>, then the enemy was ready to saw his seed of deception.<\/span><\/span>
