We see today a constant attack against Christ’s doctrine. A growing number of people, especially among proponents of the ecumenical movement & emergent church movement, are now saying: “Doctrine divides, experience unites\u201d or \u201cDoctrine is not important. Let’s lay aside our doctrinal differences and let’s unite.” It sounds nice but sadly is not biblical.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Is sound doctrine important?\u00a0 Is truth important?\u00a0 Of course it is!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sound doctrine is teaching that agrees with the Bible<\/span>. When the Bible speaks of sound doctrine, it speaks of absolute truth as laid down by God in His Word.
\nThe word doctrine means instruction, teaching.<\/strong> Noah Webster\u2019s Dictionary defines doctrine as: \u201cThat which is laid down as true<\/span> by an instructor<\/strong> or master.\u201d<\/p>\n

What some don’t seam to realize is that Christianity does not exist without it. We can’t preach the gospel to the world without doctrine. People cannot be saved, follow Jesus & grow spiritually without the teachings\/doctrine of Jesus Christ. Sound doctrine is very important to God, in His Word He directs us to teach it, & hold fast unto it.<\/p>\n

Jesus warned us to be wise & build our lives on the solid rock of His words\/teaching, not doing it will be a foolish thing that will cause us a great fall or ruin (Matthew 7:24-27<\/a>). Unsound doctrine leads to apostasy, to ruin.\u00a0 In fact, it is not possible to have a deep relationship with Jesus Christ without his doctrine. Let us carefully examine Jesus\u2019 statements:<\/p>\n

-15\u00a0 If ye<\/strong> love me, keep my commandments<\/strong>.\u00a0 -21\u00a0 <\/span>He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them<\/strong>, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. <\/span>22\u00a0<\/sup>Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?\u00a0 23\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words<\/span><\/strong><\/span>: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him<\/span><\/strong>, and make our abode with him. John 14: 15,21-23<\/a><\/span>

The Word of God says in 2 John 1:9-11<\/a><\/p>\n

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine<\/span> of Christ<\/span><\/strong>, hath not God<\/strong>. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ,<\/strong><\/span> he hath both the Father and the Son.\u00a0If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine<\/span><\/strong>, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:\u00a0for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.<\/p>\n

-For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine<\/span><\/strong>; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away<\/strong> their ears from the truth<\/span><\/strong>, and shall be turned unto fables. ( 2 Timothy 4:3-4\u00a0 )<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Paul tells Titus to “teach what accords with sound doctrine<\/span>” (Titus 2:1). Titus’s teaching had to correspond with God’s Word.\u00a0 God entrusted us with His message, His doctrine, we are just the couriers of the message, not its editors, we dare not contaminate or change His message.<\/p>\n

Sound doctrine is also important because what we believe has an impact on what we do<\/strong>. There is a direct correlation between belief and behavior. Sound doctrine leads to life.
\n“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine<\/span>; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save<\/span> thyself, and them that hear thee.<\/span>” (1 Timothy 4:16<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The apostle Paul mentioned a great apostasy<\/strong> before the coming of Christ.<\/p>\n

Let no man deceive you<\/strong> by any means: for that day shall not come,<\/i> except there come a falling away first<\/strong>, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition<\/span>, (2 Thess. 2:3).<\/p>\n

\u201cFor I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you<\/b>, not sparing the flock.\u00a0<\/span>Also of your own selves shall men<\/strong> arise, speaking<\/strong> perverse (G1294<\/a>= distort, corrupt<\/strong> ) things, to draw away disciples after them.\u00a0<\/b><\/span>Therefore watch<\/b>, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn<\/b> every one<\/span> night and day with tears\u201d.\u00a0<\/em> Acts 20: 29-31<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apostasy means to fall away from the truth<\/strong>. Therefore, an apostate is someone who has once believed and then falls away or rejects the truth of God.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly many Christians are looking for the arrival of the Antichrist, but not many are paying attention to “the apostasy” that the bible says must come first. The arrival of the Antichrist cannot occur until sufficient apostasy has happened in the church. The Antichrist cannot work freely where the truth of God’s Word is taught or where enough Christians with sound doctrine are able to expose him.<\/p>\n

Jesus opposed false teachers. Most of the epistles include some sort of warning against false teachers and were sometimes written for the purpose of exhorting us to guard right (sound) doctrine. Even if the epistle does not include the words \u201cfalse teacher\u201d or \u201cdoctrine,\u201d it is clear that many of the epistle writers were counteracting false teachers and their teaching. Preaching another gospel (“which is no gospel at all”) has terrible consequences on that person,\u00a0 see\u00a0 Galatians 1:6-9<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jude wrote of false teachers<\/strong> whose condemnation was sealed. What was their crime?<\/strong> Teaching unsound doctrine<\/span>, more specifically, they were changing “the grace of our God into a license for immorality” (Jude 1 ).\u00a0 (1<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The early church had sound doctrine & guarded it earnestly, & there was unity among them.(Acts 4:32). We know that sound doctrine unites<\/strong><\/span>, but experience or men doctrine\u00a0 (unsound doctrine) divides! The unity some groups are trying to accomplish disregarding the doctrine of Christ, is in reality a fake unity.<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is the teachings found in the Bible. It is the milk & meat that make us strong Christians. (1 Peter 2:2; Hebrews 5:12-14, Luke 4:3-4<\/a>)<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is necessary for spiritual nourishment & spiritual growth. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Sound doctrine should be taught by the faithful pastor-teacher. (Titus 2:1, 2 Tim. 4:1-4<\/a>)<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is necessary for the maintaining of practical unity among believers. (Eph. 4:11-13)<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is the means of spiritual stability . (Ephesians 4:14-16<\/a>)<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is the message\/baton of Truth that God gave us to be passed on. (2 Timothy 2:1-2<\/a>)<\/p>\n

7.<\/strong> Sound doctrine needs to be guarded and contended for against false teaching. (Jude 3-4<\/a>).<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is useful both to exhort and convict those who contradict (Titus 1:9<\/a>).<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong> Sound doctrine is to be preserved by biblical separation when necessary, (2 John 1: 7-11<\/a>). (At that time -& still today- Gnostics infiltrated the church, teaching God could not come in the flesh)<\/p>\n

10.<\/strong> There is power in the Word of God, when it is pure & not contaminated-\u00a0which is sound doctrine-\u00a0 (see some verses<\/a>)<\/p>\n

11.<\/strong> There is true & revelation from God, in sound doctrine. (Rev.22:6<\/a>, etc).<\/p>\n

12.<\/strong> Also sound doctrine is a powerful weapon against the enemy. (Matthew 4:4, 7 & 10<\/a>). No wonder satan is working hard against it.<\/p>\n

The following Bible verse has been misused by some Christian leaders to control, by marking & shunning people for various reason, but in reality this was written to protect the body of Christ from contamination of false doctrines, or false teachers.\u00a0 (1<\/a>), (2<\/a>),\u00a0 (3<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark (#G4648 <\/a>consider<\/strong><\/em>) them which cause divisions and offenses<\/span> (#G4625 <\/a>stumbling block<\/em>) contrary to the doctrine<\/span><\/strong> which ye have learned; and avoid them.<\/strong> For they <\/strong>that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ,<\/strong> but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive<\/strong> the hearts of the simple.\u201d Rom. 16:17-18<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Notice they make speeches\u00a0 & serve their own bellies, meaning they have some type of material gain from their speeches. The division is caused by a teacher<\/strong> who brings the false doctrine, not by the discerning person that is trying to defend the faith or by the churchgoers that are there to learn & can’t influence many people. So we do good by considering them which are teaching things contrary to the Word of God, and avoid false teachers<\/strong> and their doctrines, their book, videos, etc. Teachers are going to be judged more severely (James 3:1) because they can influence thousands of people, or these days, we can even say millions.<\/p>\n

There is a counterfeit church\u00a0that is being united by the ecumenical movement<\/a>, & is growing rapidly. \u00a0 Many without knowing, take their experiential views above the Scriptures, they call some manifestations \u2018signs and wonders\u2019 and say come from the Holy Spirit. Manifestations of gold dust, feathers, gems, diamonds, oil, stigmata, etc. But there is no mention in the Word of God about\u00a0 any of these manifestations, nor of the superiority of our sensations, experiences or even the whisper we think is God talking to our hearts, over the authority of the Scriptures.<\/p>\n

All sensations<\/strong>, all insights, all \u201cwhispers in the heart\u201d should be checked against Scripture<\/strong>. There is a reason why God besides sending us His Spirit, also left us His Word. Any body can say they hear from the Holy Spirit or that a manifestation is from Him, etc. How can we know for sure?\u00a0 By reading the Bible. We can’t embrace the so called ‘Movements of the Holy Spirit’, but reject\/disregard the Words that the same Holy Spirit inspired, (The Bible). He is the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13<\/a>) & He is not going to contradict Himself. If it isn’t in the Scriptures, then we don’t need it.<\/p>\n

2 Timothy 3:16-17<\/p><\/div>\n

I have heard for many years leaders of these movements, teaching that the moves of the Holy Spirit are more important than doctrine or the Word of God<\/strong>, giving that reason as an excuse for people not to check on weird manifestations & their wrong doctrines. They say: \u201cFor the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life\u201d.\u00a0 teaching that the word ‘letter’ here, means the Scriptures. But this is false!!<\/p>\n

They are taking out of context & twisting bible verses. 2 Corinthians 3:6 doesn\u2019t mean to put aside Scriptures and rely on sensations or feelings. That contradicts the Bible! The verse in context is talking about the letters written on tablets of stone<\/strong>, the law that condemns us of sin (which waves is death, Rom. 6:23), the law could not saved us only gives us a death sentence, that is the reason we needed a Saviour, Jesus. But now we are ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter (the law \u2013 Old Covenant) but of the Spirit (New Covenant). 2 Corinthians 3:6 got nothing to do with putting Scriptures or doctrine aside.<\/p>\n

Also some may tell you ‘ much bible reading makes you crazy’ but that’s the voice of the enemy (Acts 26:24<\/a>) working hard to keep us away from the truth of God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are some bible verses that emphasize that we should continue or hold fast to the same doctrine of the apostles<\/strong>, which is simply what Jesus taught them:
\nActs 2:42<\/a>, 2 John 1:9-11<\/span><\/a>, 1 Cor. 15<\/span><\/a>, Jude 1:3,<\/a> Ephesians 4:14-16<\/a><\/span>, <\/span>1 Tim. 4:1-2, <\/span><\/a>1 Tim 1:9-10<\/a>; 6:3<\/a>; 2 Tim.1:13; Titus 1:9<\/a>; 2:1;\u00a0 1 Timothy 6:3-5<\/a>; 1 Tim 4:6<\/a>; 1 Cor.11:1-2; Galatians 1:6-10, <\/span>Romans 16:17<\/a>, 2 Tim.4:3-4, 2 John 1:9<\/a>, 2 Thess.3:6<\/a>, 2 Cor. 6<\/a>,;\u00a0 Col.2:8<\/a>, etc.\u00a0 See more\u00a0 here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine<\/span> shewing<\/i> uncorruptness<\/strong><\/span>, gravity, sincerity. Titus 2:7<\/a>

1 Corinthians 11:18-19 says, \u201cFor, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part, I believe it. We find those who stand in the truth by their resistance to the false. <\/span>They test what is said<\/strong>, and it becomes evident who agrees with the word. This gives approval to those who correct in doctrine and helps us identify whom we are to separate from that are wrong in doctrine (Romans 16:17). . . .<\/p>\n

More often people depart from the truth because they did not have sound doctrine<\/strong><\/span> as their basis, so their living become affected. We preach with our life but not our life only, words need to be spoken.<\/p>\n
